Picture it: I am a librarian in a second-hand store looking for treasures when I stumble upon a cool shirt with an all over print of BOOKS! I thought, what in the Reading Rainbow is this?! I quickly purchased the shirt and proudly wore it often to work at the library.
The shirt was a totally 80's find with all its shoulder pad goodness! Once I had been retired from the library for quite some time, I realized I hadn't worn the shirt since I was at work. I didn't want to get rid of it, but I wanted it to have new life. That's when I decided it was time for an UPCYCLE!
We have talked about crochet, but what about the curiosities?
If you're not familiar with the concept, upcycling is the process where you take something that had one purpose or style, and you transform it into something totally new and different. This is not limited to clothing or fabrics, but that's my jam!
I love wearing light-weight scarves as part of my style, and I think I look damn good doing it, if I do say so myself. So the decision to transform this shirt into a scarf was easy.
To get a feel for the fabric, it is very soft from all the many washes over the years. So not only was this a comfy shirt, it is now one of my softest scarves!
Check out my process for upcycling clothing in these images. Did you know I can do this for you? If you have a piece of clothing that needs a new life, I can make that happen. Many people love upcycling a loved one's favorite shirt after they have passed, or giving a favorite graduate a gift made up of their favorite childhood clothes. There are SO many possibilities.
